Going with the flow

In the midst of a catch up with a dear friend, I realized how much “going with the flow” I’ve done in my lifetime… I sat after the call wondering whether it was normal that a lot of my life shaping decisions or events were the product of me “going with the flow” and following the path that seemed traced in dotted lines… I am not saying it’s bad or good I’m just saying it as it is.

To give you a small idea about the instances where I went with the flow:

1. My high school major

2. My college major

3. My graduate program. Not so much the major or the school since I, funny enough, had a clear idea of what I wanted…

4. My first real job

5. The places where I lived

6. My first and probably most “solid” relationship (controversial?)

7. My “almost” engagement (the almost is for another post…)

I am not sure where I am going with this. Looking at the list is making me question: would I have done anything different if I had to do it all over again? Was I really just going with the flow? or was there some kind of decision making and I just can’t see it..

One thing that I am sure about is that every single decision shaped me in one way or another and made me the person I am. More than that, it led me to meet the people I met, see places and discover my weaknesses and strengths..

Are you also going with the flow?
